Monsù Giovanni dreamed of being able to buy the Marenca and Rivette vineyards for years and spent many more years researching how to get the best out of them. This excellent wine is the result of the winemaker’s tireless care and passion for his work. In fact, Sperss means nostalgia, which Papa Giovanni felt all his life until, in 1988, Angelo Gaja transformed the dream into a reality.

Today, Sperss is one of the most famous and representative of the great red wines of the Langhe region. Its grapes, grown on fine clay-limestone marls, give this wine intense and varied aromas, excellent structure and longevity.

After fermentation in steel, it matures in barriques for 12 months and in large oak barrels for another 12 months.

Ready to be consumed immediately, it also evolves very well if allowed to rest.

Its strong personality is revealed once it is poured into the glass: its intense garnet red colour, aromas of undergrowth, delicate floral references to violets and also to humus, leather and sweet spices unfold fully.
